A REAL Upstate Art-Life Adventure
Weirdos in the Woods is a three-day, artist-driven festival happening across the Hudson Valley, from Mohonk to Woodstock, over Labor Day Weekend, September, 4-6, 2026. Organized by The Tavern and Three Phase Center (Stone Ridge, NY) in collaboration with Rosekill Performance Art Farm (Rosendale, NY), Weirdos in the Woods is a roaming celebration of performance, sound, self-directed creative practice, electronic arts, and community imagination.

At the heart of the festival is a living map, guiding visitors through studios, venues, and unexpected encounters with art in the woods, fields, barns, stages, and gathering places of the Hudson Valley. Over the course of the weekend, artists open their studios to the public, while three host venues present exhibitions, performances, installations, lectures, situations, and collective experiences.

Weirdos in the Woods is more than a festival, it’s an experiment. Many of the artists we feature balance deep creative practices with day jobs in trades, tech, care work, education, and labor. We ask a simple but urgent question: How can artists build real, sustainable lives in the places they live? In a time when institutional and government funding continues to fall short, Weirdos in the Woods is building a community-funded alternative platform grounded in fun, shared responsibility, and collective joy. We raise money the way we gather, through wild fundraisers like arm wrestling tournaments, mud wrestling showdowns, live performances, and hand screen-printed thrifted t-shirts. Every dollar goes toward paying artists. Our action-packed fundraisers are:

-
Friday April 3, 2026 at Three Phase Center- Aries Headbash is our kick-off party with cake and potluck
-
Saturday July 4, 2026 at Three Phase Center- arm wrestling tournament and other high-spirited mischievous behavior
-

-

Weirdos in the Woods is a celebration of art as a way of life, a social-sculpture of people acting on the idea that artists and creative-behaving people can participate in building new economic systems. Together, we’re working to come up with living, local mode that can support artists as whole people and to demonstrate why behaving creatively matters.

Meet the organizers
The Tavern is an experimental music and arts space in the Hudson Valley rooted in jazz, improvisation, and sonic inquiry. Home to the Center for Sonic and Psychospiritual Research, The Tavern supports work exploring the intersections of music, metaphysics, and the healing arts. With mud on the walls and grit in the ears, it fosters deep listening, risk-taking, and collective experimentation.
Three Phase Center is an interdisciplinary art space in Stone Ridge, NY, supporting experimental work through exhibitions, performances, residencies, and community gatherings. With a professional photo studio, flexible event space, and open grounds, we foster collaboration, dialogue, and the mysterious power of artists working together.
Rosekill Performance Art Farm is a 60-acre performance art site in the Hudson Valley dedicated to live, experimental art. Located in Ulster County, Rosekill hosts performance artists from around the world who present work directly in the woods, fields, and natural landscape. Rooted in land, ritual, and risk-taking, Rosekill fosters deep experimentation, international exchange, and the power of performance in direct relationship with place.
